British Black Music Month 2009
British Black Music Month (BBMM) takes place throughout June. It's an initiative started by BritishBlackMusic.com/Black Music Congress in 2006 as a way of promoting British black music and highlighting issues, through discussions, album anatomies, courses, seminars, live performances, club nights, awards, radio shows, etc.
In addition to the usual, 2009 will focus especially on legal and business opportunities.

3 June – Nigeria and Ghana: New Horizons for your Business, London
Nigeria and Ghana have strong commercial and cultural ties with the UK. Britain remains one of the largest exporters and investors in both countries. Nigerians and Ghanaians look to British goods and services before considering any other country.
Despite the global crisis, these markets registered growth reaching 6.8% in Nigeria and 6.3% in Ghana in 2008. Commercial links with the UK are strong: UK exports of goods to Nigeria increased by 42% in 2008, reaching £1,433m whereas exports of services were worth £882m. Regarding the Ghanaian market, UK exports of goods were valued at £266m in 2008 and exports of services were worth £132m in 2007. Opportunities for British exporters exist across the board, especially in oil and gas, agriculture, environment, infrastructure, construction, power generation, consumer goods. Nigeria, 1943. The King is dead, and tonight his Horseman must escort him to the Ancestors.
As Elesin Oba dances through the closing marketplace, flirting with the women, pursued by his praise-singer and an entourage of drummers, he promises to honour the ancient Yoruba custom of ritual suicide and so accompany his ruler on the final journey. But a life so rich is hard to leave, and this is a British colony where such customs are not tolerated, no matter how sacred.
Set against the conflict of indigenous and invader, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka's extraordinary play uses Elesin's transition from the living to the dead to examine the essence of corruption and the power of the human will.

8-9 June – 4th Annual GBSN Conference, Cape Town, South Africa

23-25 June – Pan-Africa Investment Climate Summit, Harare, Zimbabwe
The Africa investor Pan-African Investment Climate Summit is a pan-African business forum designed to profile pre-vetted investment projects from across Africa and problem solve specific investment climate challenges with investors and donors.
The Summit brings together business and government leaders to discuss investment opportunities. The first day of the Summit will comprise a half day project showcase for investors to meet project promoters, followed by welcome drinks. The second day will be the official opening of the Summit followed by a gala dinner where the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) will unveil its new national tourism strategy. The final day will be Zimbabwe-focused and showcase exciting presentations from business and government leaders on investment opportunities in the manufacturing, infrastructure, and tourism sectors.

27 June – International Slavery Tour, Liverpool
Due to popular demand, and the overwhelming success of our summer museum tours, Black History Studies have organised another tour of British Museum in London and the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool.
The International Slavery Museum is designed and accompanied by Robin Walker. During this tour, Robin will take you around the museum, sharing his detailed knowledge. The museum galleries feature dynamic and thought-provoking displays about the story of the transatlantic slave trade.
This tour will take place on Saturday 27th June 2009. The tour costs £55 per person which includes round-trip transportation, on route discussion and debate and all tour fees. Over 16s only.
27 June-4 July – 12th Zanzibar International Film Festival, Zanzibar
We are honoured to welcome you to our celebration of the 12th Zanzibar International Film Festival with the theme Enduring Links: Media, People and Environment.
The festival centre is located in the beautiful stone town area in Zanzibar. The main location of the festival is an atmospheric Amphitheatre located inside an Old Fort. Other venues are Mambo Club, Forodhani Garden, House of Wonders, Old Customs House, Palace Museum, the Barge at the Old fort Waterfront, Aecrotanal, Chake Chake and Wete Cinema in Pemba.
29 May - 21st Africa Festival, Germany

During four days, the music of the African continent will again be the focus on one of the most beautiful open-air grounds of Germany. We are presenting a multi-faceted programme reflecting the variety of African music with bands and musicians from twelve African countries. Oumou Sangare from Mali and Touré Kunda from Senegal are two top stars of African music appearing at the Africa Festival for the first time.
Apart from presenting some familiar faces, we mainly want to introduce young talents to the audience who will certainly make a name for themselves in the coming years. In addition to that, three music groups from the South African metropolis of Johannesburg will be performing at the Festival.
29-30 June - British Female Inventors & Innovators Network (BFIIN) International Showcase & Awards, Hilton Hotel, Cardiff, Wales

The G8 Corporate Africa Infrastructure Investment Conference 2009 is the latest addition to the Corporate Africa brand which includes several other international conferences and exhibitions.
