.....that to succeed, you need to create opportunities for yourself as no-one will create them for you if you don’t step out of your comfort zone to make it happen."

I was educated at....

....Alperton Community School in Alperton, London. This was followed by a degree in International Travel and Tourism Communications at the University of the Arts, London and a one year learning programme at the School for Social Entrepreneurs in London.

My first job was....

....as a Sales Consultant for a retail firm.

What I do now is....

....run the Young Entrepreneurs Programme (YEP) in London, which is an initiative of my organisation, Ghanaian Londoners Network. YEP is a series of business learning and mentoring weekly sessions for young people, giving them entrepreneurial skills, training and knowledge to enable them to start up their own businesses.

Adwoa Agyemang is a Social Entrepreneur and Change Agent, who sees the big picture and thinks strategically to make things happen. She is an inspirational, motivated, talented and committed young woman who is working to unlock the potential of the youth and women.

Adwoa launched Ghanaian Londoners (GL) www.ghanaianlondoners.org in February 2009, inspired by the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the Diaspora. GL is a social enterprise which aims to unlock the full potential of individuals with a core focus on Youth development, Enterprise and Women empowerment. Since its launch, GL has engaged with over 500 people through their networking, women and youth enterprise projects.

In November 2010, Adwoa launched WE [Women in Enterprise] during Global Entrepreneurship Week as part of GL's Women Empowerment programs. WE is an annual awards, networking and mentoring initiative which celebrates successful women in business and community development as well as encouraging entrepreneurship among young women.

Adwoa graduated as a Fellow from The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) having completed a year's learning programme in March 2011.

In May 2011, GL won the Big Lottery Fund award to deliver the GL Young Entrepreneurs Programme (GLYEP) across London. The programme has worked with over 40 young people to date. GLYEP is a series of interactive business learning and mentoring sessions for young people giving them the training, necessary skills, encouragement and support to begin a career as an entrepreneur and in 2011, Adwoa won the RECON Community Leaders Awards for the programme.

Adwoa is a passionate Ghanaian-British woman who embraces both cultures, a Global African who feels strongly about the empowering Africans, especially the young generation and women to achieve their fullest potential both home and abroad. On a mission to inspire everyone, especially every young woman/person to have a dream and a vision, Adwoa is also a mentor and proactive with many charitable organisations.

What I learned along the way is...

....that to succeed, you need to create opportunities for yourself as no-one will create them for you if you don't step out of your comfort zone to make it happen. Due to my work with young people, I have also learned that, sometimes, all people need is a bit of encouragement for them to unlock their full potential and achieve greatness.

My greatest influence has been....

....my father, who is a serial entrepreneur. He inspires me a lot with his wisdom and experience of life.

The best advice I ever received was....

....to keep going until I achieve my desired results.

My top tips for succeeding in my career area are.....

....hard work, determination, perseverance and learning by doing. You don't have to know everything about something before you start. And not to be afraid of failure; it just guides you and makes you wiser for next time.
